Narrative Haiku
My two favorite poems from my early writing.
Cityscape
Violet, Orange,
Red sun shining through thick haze.
Beautiful, Deadly.
Sleeping on the ground,
Brown sack covered bottle near.
Wake up and drink more.
The clash of trash cans.
The noisy grind of truck gears.
Street cleaners working hard.
The schoolyard bell rings.
Kids in uniform line up.
Schools out for the day.
Rushing, clanging noise,
Trolleys, busses, trains, sirens
City sounds of life.
Violet, Orange,

Seascape
Dark green waves curling
heaving mounds of sunlit foam
to die out on shore.
Small seabirds looking
in the wet sand between waves
skipping over rocks.
Wade into the surf
to catch the oceans bounty
rods held tight in hand.
Heads bob up and down
boards poised for rapid motion
fly across the face of waves.
Shiny, tan bodies
lay on multi-colored cloth
worshipping the sun.
Seagulls dive nearby
looking hungrily for scraps
annoying bathers.
Dark green waves curling
heaving mounds of sunlit foam
to die out on shore.
Interesting how you didn’t say “Biden is responsible for the genocide” like you did on HCR’s substack letter. Israel is responsible for Palestinian genocide. NOT Biden. Talk about genocide all you want but blaming Biden is BS.
